Sarasota - McDonald’s has launched a limited-time Christmas menu that promises to bring holiday cheer with a variety of traditional and unique seasonal offerings. The fast-food giant, known for its fast, familiar fare, is turning heads this holiday season with an eclectic blend of festive treats, including Wassail, Figgy Pudding, and Latkes. The new items will be available at participating locations through the end of December.
In what seems like a nod to the growing trend of integrating global flavors into mainstream fast food, McDonald’s new menu incorporates beloved holiday flavors from various traditions. Wassail, the spiced hot cider drink traditionally served during the Christmas season, takes center stage as a new beverage offering. The drink is a blend of apple cider, orange juice, cinnamon, and cloves, evoking warmth and nostalgia—perfect for sipping on cold winter days.
The Figgy Pudding, a dense, fruit-laden cake historically enjoyed in British holiday festivities, has also been given a modern fast-food makeover. McDonald's rendition of this iconic dessert is served warm and comes drizzled with a rich brandy sauce, making it both indulgent and a touch festive for those looking for a different sweet treat this holiday season.
Perhaps the most surprising offering is the inclusion of Latkes, the savory potato pancakes traditionally eaten during Hanukkah. McDonald's version comes with a dollop of applesauce and sour cream on the side, providing a new spin on the holiday favorite. While it's a departure from McDonald’s typical fare, the inclusion of latkes reflects a growing awareness of diverse cultural traditions during the holiday season.
McDonald’s has a history of rolling out limited-time regional and seasonal items to appeal to local tastes and global celebrations. This year, the company has embraced a wider range of holiday traditions from around the world, offering more than just the standard holiday-inspired items like the McRib or festive McFlurries.
“The holiday season is about inclusivity and coming together, and we wanted to reflect that in our menu this year,” said McDonald’s Senior Vice President of Global Marketing, Sandra Reynolds. “By incorporating Wassail, Figgy Pudding, and Latkes, we are honoring various holiday traditions and offering something special for every customer, no matter their background.”
This year’s Christmas menu marks an expansion beyond typical holiday promotions seen in previous years. In addition to the seasonal beverages and desserts, McDonald’s is offering a limited-time holiday bundle, which includes a combination of the new items and a classic McDonald’s meal, offering convenience and variety for families celebrating together.
The new Christmas menu will be available for a limited time, with each item disappearing after December 31, 2024. McDonald's locations have been offering samples to generate buzz, and early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, especially among customers who enjoy seeing the holiday spirit infused into the fast-food dining experience.
“I was really excited to see latkes on the menu! It’s something I normally only get during Hanukkah, so I’m happy McDonald’s is embracing more diverse traditions,” said Rachel Klein, a McDonald’s customer from New York City. “The Wassail is a great touch, too—it’s not something I’d expect to find at a fast food restaurant, but it’s the perfect drink for the holidays.”
However, some customers have expressed surprise over the inclusion of such niche items on a fast food menu. “I never thought I’d see a fast food chain offering something like Figgy Pudding. It’s kind of fun and unexpected, but I’m curious to see how they manage to pull it off,” said Tom Beale, a longtime McDonald's fan in Chicago.
