Setting the record straight: Recent reports have surfaced suggesting that Elon Musk might have considered acquiring Truth Social, the social media platform launched by former President Donald Trump. However, there is no evidence to support the claim that Musk offered to buy Truth Social in exchange for a cabinet-level position in a potential Trump administration.
According to multiple sources, including a report by the Washington Post, Trump approached Musk last summer to gauge his interest in purchasing Truth Social. This conversation took place during a time when Trump Media & Technology Group, which owns Truth Social, was facing financial difficulties and regulatory challenges related to a merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp. Despite the discussions, no deal was reached, and the idea did not progress beyond initial talks.
Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter (now X) in late 2022, has publicly criticized Truth Social in the past, calling it a platform that exists due to Twitter's previous censorship policies. While Musk has reinstated Trump's account on X, the former president has largely refrained from using it, preferring to maintain the value of his own platform.
The notion of Musk seeking a cabinet position in exchange for acquiring Truth Social appears to be speculative and is not supported by any credible reports or statements from the parties involved. Both Trump and Musk have continued to communicate about various topics, but there is no indication of any formal agreement or offer related to a cabinet role
