McConnell Delivers Rousing Speech on Senate Floor

WASHINGTON — In a speech that left the Senate chamber unusually attentive, Mitch McConnell took to the floor Wednesday and delivered an animated address that even longtime colleagues described as a striking display of the Kentucky senator’s famed command of rhetoric.

McConnell, who has built his career around the quieter mechanics of Senate power, opened by thanking his colleagues for their patience and prayers. He spoke at length about the challenges facing the institution and called for lawmakers to approach the months ahead with renewed purpose.
