WASHINGTON — The FBI has offered a $200,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a former U.S. Air Force intelligence specialist accused of unlawful disclosure of classified material, in a case that has drawn unusual attention due to a related prediction market wager.
According to federal officials, the suspect, identified in court filings as 29-year-old former analyst Monica Witt, is believed to have fled the United States following an investigation into the alleged mishandling and dissemination of sensitive intelligence documents.
In a development that has complicated the case’s public narrative, blockchain records reviewed by independent analysts indicate that an account linked by some observers to Witt placed a $500,000 wager on the prediction market platform Polymarket. The bet, placed weeks before the FBI’s announcement, predicted that federal authorities would issue a $200,000 reward for information leading to her capture.
Polymarket, a decentralized platform that allows users to trade on the outcomes of real-world events, confirmed that a large position had been taken on the specific outcome but declined to comment on the identity of the account holder, citing privacy policies. “We are aware of the public interest in this market and are cooperating with lawful requests where appropriate,” a company spokesperson said.
Federal officials have not publicly confirmed any connection between Witt and the Polymarket account. However, legal experts say that if such a link were established, it could raise questions about intent and potential financial motives. “It would be highly unusual, though not necessarily illegal on its face, depending on how the information was obtained and whether any laws regarding fraud or misuse of information were violated,” said Daniel Reyes, a former federal prosecutor.
The FBI’s reward announcement, issued Thursday, calls on the public to provide tips that could lead to Witt's arrest and emphasizes that all information will be treated confidentially. “We are committed to ensuring accountability in cases involving the unauthorized handling of classified information and uncanny knowledge of our own next moves,” the agency said in a statement.
