President Trump Describes Meeting With NYC Mayor-Elect Mamdani as “Very Perfect”

Washington, D.C., — President Donald Trump on Wednesday characterized his first in-person meeting with New York City’s mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani, as exceptionally positive, telling reporters the conversation was “very perfect.”

The meeting, held in the Oval Office, lasted just under an hour. While observers anticipated discussions on federal funding, public safety, or infrastructure, Trump said the two leaders spent much of their time talking about the newly crowned Miss Universe, Fatima Bosch.

“We mostly just talked about Fatima Bosch, the new Miss Universe,” the President said. “It was a great conversation—very perfect, actually. She’s accomplished, she’s impressive, and we both agreed we'd like to meet her.”

Mamdani’s transition team offered a brief statement after the meeting, describing the discussion as “cordial and wide-ranging.” The spokesperson confirmed that Bosch came up but emphasized that the mayor-elect also “raised issues relevant to New Yorkers as he prepares to take office.” No additional details were provided.

Political analysts had speculated that the two might clash over topics such as housing policy or federal-city cooperation. Instead, both sides presented the encounter as relaxed and friendly, with limited indication of policy debate.
